Getting Ready for 2010

A new trailer hitch has been added to my Montero Sport. The Ford F250 we used in the past was completely totalled by David's daughter this summer and we must now adjust to the change.
The Montero is a four wheel drive that is very rugged and should pull the trailer just fine. All that remains is for me to wire the light harness for the trailer and we will be good to go.

The forecast for pheasants in the southeast Nebraska area is not good...but, we have fixed that by releasing 100 birds on the farm this summer. Hopefully, they will be near the area when the season starts. In addition, the farm in Kearney will have plenty of birds. It may be tough elsewhere, but I believe we will have a great year. With Bubba, Manny, Sasha, and Scooby gaining experience, it will be a blast! In preparation for that, I ordered my non-res/habitat stamp today. With a permit in my pocket, a new tag on the trailer, and a new hitch on the Montero, it seems that everything is lining up very well for the trip to big cog country...

Can't wait to see the dogs work. Sounds as if Lenny might be able to make it after all. Melanie will be there as well as Cali from what I hear.

Well, oncet again JB has been taking those "fantasy pills" to convince him that all is well in the world of pfeasant hunding is Nebraska.

Dream on JB!

Are youse guys planning a hund in Hartington?

If this year is anything like last year it will be a CF of the highest order!

With Big Jim ramrodding your hunds and securing your hunding areas your money would be better spent on buying chickens at the local, Engall's Supermarket. I would add more to this comment but it would most probably piss someone off!

I am happy to hear that the masochistic F250 Ford will not be the vehicle of choice this year, as it was a vehicle from hell, for a 2000 mile hunding trip. I only hope David's daughter was not injured seriously in the totalling of the P/U.

The new vehicle will be much more comfortable for the hunders riding 2500 miles in the rear sead.

Alas, I have found that a much shorder trip To Arkansa, to hund the wily Mallard duck, at a much more expensive rate, is preferable to the lesser expensive 2500 mile trip to Nebraska, in a cramped vehicle, to hund the wiley COCK pheasant on public lands!

I hate to be a spoil sport but I told you so last year AND I am telling you so again this year!

This year...we will have the farm land to hund where 100 flight conditioned pheasants were released in July. We wil have Royal's place, south of coyote draw where Len and I flushed out about half a dozen (four hens, two rooster's) and I was lucky enough to bag mine along with another in the grass field adjacent to the creek. We will have Hyek's place in Wilber. We will have the fields behind C and D's. And, to help the dog's learn what to look for, we will have a place in Kearney that will have flight conditioned pheasants released before we get there. At $14 per bagged bird, it is not only very cheap, it will help the dogs, it will help everyone remember what it is like to bag a live bird, and it will be a blast.
In addition, we will have Bubba (very experienced and tracked down the first bird that ran), Scooby (who located the flush that Len and I enjoyed), Manny (who helped me bag two roosters last year. And Sasha, (who was rescued last year weighing 40 pounds and now weighs 110 pounds) my new body guard.

We will not be hunting in Hartington. We will be hunting private land, enjoying the Fifth Quarter Bar, watching the dogs get more experience, AND...hunding the farm with the knowledge that of the 100 birds released, a few will be waiting for us.

As far as I can tell, it will be a great year to hund...not for the other hunders...just this team.

And Big Jim's Bar in Seward was a BLAST..........

c-mon HB! You know, even with back problems I had a great time! With the frustrations of not seeing birds last year, we still managed to have a great time. I just like a week vacation in the cold hanging with the USOPHT crew!

HB is fine. He was just throwing out some barbs for the hell of it. Things are a lot different for this year's hund.... He won't want to miss it.

A new trailer jack is being installed to ease the hitching and unhitching of the trailer. In addition, because of Sasha's size, I will be removing the partition between two of the boxes to allow room for Sasha. Right now, getting her into a regular size compartment would be like me trying to cram Laura into one. Ain't gonna happen.... I will check the structure to make sure the removal will not jeopardize the overall design....

Well, I see that my earlier comments about the coming hund have been relagated to rumor status, as usual!

I only hope that the 100 birds released on the farm in Palmyra have not "flown the coop",so to speak!

JB, as usual has outdone himself, on preparing the vehicle and trailer for the coming ordeal.

For the sake of the team, I can only hope that the public hunding areas are teeming with the wily cock pheasant, and wish the team ALL the LUCK in the world, because you guys are gonna need it!

Respectfully submitted,
